Privacy notice
A plain-language account of what Collabrave collects and why, while we're a small private beta.
What we collect
- Your account email address and a hashed password — we never see or store your actual password.
- The profile fields you enter: name, pronouns, headline, bio, skills, rate, availability and the rest of Profile → Edit.
- Uploaded images: your profile photo and cover, the images in your Gallery, and any cover you put on a showcase piece. Metadata — including GPS location — is stripped from every image on upload, but what’s in the picture isn’t: check backgrounds for house numbers, street signs and number plates.
- The collections you make (their names and which of your pieces are in them) and the social accounts you add. For a social we keep the platform and the handle only, never a password or follower numbers.
- Contact details, if you add them: a username on WhatsApp, Snapchat, Telegram, Signal, Discord or Messenger, or, for WhatsApp, a phone number. They are kept separately from your profile (see “Contact details” below).
- Requests, messages and reports you send or receive.
- Whether each of your projects is listed publicly, and the date you listed it.
- If ‘Use my activity to order my picks’ is on: the people and projects you save, pass on, open or connect with, the requests you accept and the conversations you reply in, with the day (see ‘How your picks are ordered’).
- Session data each time you sign in: a description of your browser and a hashed version of your IP address. A hash is a scrambled fingerprint, not the address itself. We use it to keep you signed in and to limit abuse.
Who can see it
Your location shows as a city or suburb and state, never an exact address. Keep exact meetup details in a private conversation, not on your profile or a project listing.
Your profile — name, photo, city, bio, skills, rate if you choose to show it, your showcase and your gallery — is visible to every signed-in Collabrave member, not only people you connect with. Two things are different: a social you set to connections only is seen only by people you have connected with, and contact details are never on your profile for anyone you haven’t shared them with.
If you choose “Listed publicly” for a project, its title, summary, mode, skills, budget, city and start month, and your first name, can be seen by anyone, including people who aren’t members and people you’ve blocked, and search engines can list them. Taking it down removes it from Collabrave straight away; search engines and anyone who copied it may keep it longer.
Numbers we publish
Public pages show how many members there are by industry and city, rounded down and updated weekly, never with names and never for fewer than 10 members.
Contact details
- Private by default. Nobody sees a contact detail until you share it, from inside a conversation, with the one other person in it. There is no way to share one with everyone, from a request, from Collab or from your profile, and accepting a request shares nothing.
- Who can see what you shared. The person you shared it with sees it, in that conversation and on your profile, only while all of this is true: the conversation is open, you haven’t blocked each other, both accounts are in good standing, you have each sent a message there, your account is at least 3 days old, and nobody has an open report that someone looks under 18. The moment any of that stops being true, they stop seeing it on Collabrave.
- Stopping. You can stop sharing with one person, or with everyone, at any time in the conversation or in Profile → Settings. Changing or removing a detail also ends every share of it. Anyone who already saved a detail still has it: we can’t take it back from their phone or from the other app.
- Deleting. When you remove a detail, or your account is deleted, we delete the detail straight away.
- What we keep after that. For 12 months after you stop sharing a detail we keep the date, the two people, the platform and a keyed hash of the detail. A keyed hash is a scrambled fingerprint, not the detail itself. We use it to recognise the same detail across accounts if it is reported for abuse, then we delete it.
- Reports. If someone reports a detail you shared, a copy goes into the report as evidence. Only moderators can read it, every time is logged, and it is kept for 12 months after the report is resolved, or longer if a legal hold applies.
- What we don’t do. A contact detail never appears on a card, in search, on Home, in Collab, in matching or in a notification, and we never sell it or let anyone pay to unlock it. We build the link for each platform ourselves from the username or number.
- In this beta contact details are stored as plain text in our database. We plan to encrypt them before any public launch.
Your Gallery, socials and collections
- Gallery images are visible to every signed-in member who can see your profile, and anyone who can see an image can save a copy. We can take an image down from Collabrave, but we can’t reach copies made elsewhere.
- Socials show on your profile to signed-in members who can see it, never to people who aren’t signed in. For each one you choose whether every signed-in member sees it or only people you have connected with; Facebook starts as connections only. We build each link ourselves from the handle you give us and never fetch the account. Socials never appear on cards, in search, on Home, in Collab or in a request.
- Collection names are shown to anyone who can see your profile. They aren’t searchable.
- Phone numbers and chat-app usernames can’t go on your profile, in a project, in an offer, in a request note or in a collection name.
- When someone reports an image as showing a person who looks under 18, or as an intimate image shared without consent, we hide it straight away while we review it. We keep a copy of reported images and what was on the profile at the time as evidence, even if the owner deletes them afterwards.
How your picks are ordered
Collab, Home and the Recommended order in Explore start from what’s on your profile and theirs: skills, industries, city and state, what you’re here for, availability, the kinds of work you’re open to, whether they work remotely or travel, and whether they’ve finished 10 or more collaborations here. We also keep some places for people who joined in the last two weeks, spread the order across different industries and cities, and break ties in a different order each day. None of that uses your activity.
If ‘Use my activity to order my picks’ is on, we also keep a short record of some things you do in Collabrave: the people you save, pass on, open from a card or send a request to, the requests you accept, the conversations you reply in (that you replied, never what you said), and the projects you open or save. It is on unless you turn it off, and it only starts after we’ve shown you how it works. We record the day, not the time. We use this record only to put people and projects like those nearer the top of your own picks, and, without names, to count how many of each kind of action happen each day across all members. It never changes what anyone else sees, and other members can’t see it.
We never use your messages or request notes; who you block, report or decline, or who blocks or reports you; or anything about moderation (with one exception: while a report that someone looks under 18 is open against an account, that account’s own picks use profile details only); your contact details, socials, gallery or collections; payments or Premium; the time you use Collabrave; or any location more exact than the city on your profile. Picks never use anyone’s name, photo, pronouns, gender or age. Hang out picks use profile details only. Nothing comes from Google, Meta or any other app, and none of it is used for advertising.
Each item is deleted 90 days after you last did it. Turning the setting off, or choosing Reset my picks in Profile → Settings, deletes the record straight away, and so does deleting your account. If you block someone, or they block you, everything recorded between you is deleted. Reporting someone, or declining their request, deletes what your record holds about them. Our team doesn’t look at individual members’ records, except to send you yours when you ask for a copy.
Hang out
If you use Hang out, we keep the activities you choose, the hang outs you post (activity, suburb, rough time, how many people and what to bring), and the date you confirmed you're 18 or over. Your activities show on your profile to signed-in members. Posts show to signed-in members until their time has passed, and we delete them 30 days later. You agree the exact place and time in your messages, which only the two of you see; they're kept like any other message, including when someone makes a report. We never use your phone's location or track where you are, and Hang out picks use only what's on your profile.
Where it’s stored
Beta data is stored on <hosting location — set before beta>.
How long we keep it
Reports and their evidence snapshots are kept for moderation. They are not auto-deleted during the beta, and stay on file after a report is resolved. The contact detail inside a report is deleted 12 months after the report is resolved unless a legal hold applies. Images held as evidence are kept, hidden from everyone, until the report is closed or a legal hold ends.
Backups. We keep backup copies of the beta database for safety, so something you delete can stay in a backup until that backup is replaced. Backups are kept for <backup period — set before beta>.
Getting a copy or having it deleted
Email support@collabrave.com from your account address for a copy of your data, or to have your account deleted.
What deletion keeps. When your account is deleted we clear your profile (your name becomes “Former member”) and delete what you published, including your contact details. We keep what other people’s safety or money can depend on: report records and what they preserved (see “How long we keep it”), payment records, and the text of projects you posted, which are closed rather than deleted.
Messages you sent stay in the other person’s conversation after your account is deleted. We haven’t built a way to remove them yet.
Third parties
Pressing play on a showcase item, and loading its preview image, sends your IP address to whichever provider hosts that piece (YouTube, Spotify and the rest). You can turn preview images off in Profile → Settings.
We don’t send marketing email, run advertising, or use third-party analytics during this beta.
